How to Meditate

meditateAside from its numerous functions, traditional Meditation has been used for spiritual growth. It makes your mind become more conscious; unfold your inner light, love, and wisdom; become more aware of the guiding presence in your lives; and accelerating your journey home to your true self. Follow these simple steps in starting you meditation process.

Do not worry about doing it right – Put your expectations aside. There are infinite possibilities in determining the right meditation. However, you should avoid forcing something to happen; over-analyzing the meditation; or trying to make your mind blank or chase thoughts away.

Do not meditate on an empty stomach – If you’re hungry, have a little something to eat before meditating.

Find a quiet and comfortable place to meditate – You can sit in a chair, on the bed, even on the floor, as long as it is comfortable. It’s not necessary to sit cross-legged, as it can be in any position that is comfortable to you.

Eliminate as much noise and as many potential distractions as possible – Close the doors and window, turn off the television and radio until it is quiet enough. Do not worry about things that you cannot control, like a noisy street.

Sit comfortably – Sit with your spine reasonably straight. This allows the spiritual energy to flow freely up the spine, which is an important aspect of meditation. It is okay to lean against a chair back, a wall, or headboard. If you cannot sit up for physical reasons, lay flat on your back.

Place your hands in any position that is comfortable – Remember that you need to be comfortable before starting your meditation. You can place them on your lap, on the side, or clasp them together as if on a prayer.

Call on a "higher source" for assistance – Ask for assistance in your meditation, that is, if this does not go against your beliefs. Any form is all right, although it is not necessary.
