How to Prevent Allergy

Although there are already several medications available in the market to treat allergies, it would be helpful to practice routines can help you avoid allergens. It is not healthy to be dependent entirely on medicines so you might want to explore the following for practicality and preventive measures.

Start with your Home

  • If you are allergic to pollen, close the house window as often as possible. Use air conditioning instead of a fan since fans can accumulate dust. Dust, as we know, is another type of allergen.
  • Maintain your air conditioning. There should never be a room for laziness to filter the air conditioning.   • Use plastic covers for pillows, mattresses, and box springs. As much as possible, do not use overstuffed furniture and down filled bedding or pillows. These materials tend to collect dusts, dirt and house mites.
  • Wash your bedding every week in hot water. This kills dust mites.

  • Protect yourself from insect stings. To do so, wear shoes, long pants and sleeves. Avoid putting on scented deodorants, perfumes, shampoos or hair products as it may attract unwanted attention from insects.
  • After being exposed outdoors, take a shower to wash off any allergens you got from just being outside.
  • Wear a mask when doing chores such as mowing the lawn if you are allergic to grass pollen or mold. As much as possible stay away from mowing and being around freshly cut grass if possible.
  • Wear a mask when gardening, as flowers and some weeds release pollen.
  • Keep off raking leaves or working with hay or mulch if you are allergic to mold.
  • Don’t hang clothes or linens out to dry, as pollen and molds may collect on them. You know well, that one’s exposure to these particles can set off your body to allergy mode.
