Why is there a need for insulin in our body? What is its purpose? How does it function? How is it produced? How important is insulin to living?

Importance of Insulin

Our bodies need energy. Energy we get from the food we eat. Once inside the body, it is broken down and converted into sugar or glucose distributed to the cells of our body. Insulin is just one of the many hormones necessary for the body to function well.

Produced constantly by the pancreas, insulin is needed for the cells to absorbed the glucose or sugar to give us the energy the body requires. The truth is, even if you stuff yourself with so much food, insulin absence, will leave you hungry and starved. This feeling of starvation results from the inability of the body to absorb the calories.

The insulin travels all around our system guarding the balance of sugar, making sure that the body gets the proper amount of calories.

The following briefly describes the action of insulin on the human metabolism:

Insulin controls cellular intake of certain substances. The most prominent substance it controls is the glucose distributed in the muscle and adipose tissue. About 2/3 of the body cells are made up of the above mentioned cells.

This hormones functions in increasing DNA replication and protein synthesis by controlling amino acids.

Modifies the activity of several enzymes.

Presence of insulin the body increases and forces the storage of glucose in the liver cells in the form of glycogen. Such bodily process decreases the case of high blood.

Increases fatty acid synthesis. It is its function to force fatty acids to to take in blood lipids converting fat cells to trigleycerides. Trigleycerides performs a significant role in metabolism.

Decreases protein degradation.

Insulins insists on the increase of amino acid uptake. This is true as well the potassium.

Another function of insulin is is relaxing the arterial wall. It increases the blood flow in our body most especially the micro arteries.

Tones the production of glucose from the various substrates in liver.
