Old age can really be such a concern especially if one is thinking about health. It is a fact that old age brings about some decline in health in humans. Stay active

If one has followed a healthy lifestyle all the way, then he or she has better chances of still being active all the way through the 60’s. A healthy dose of regular exercise and the proper diet may do a lot in making the body functioning better even in the latter stages of age.

Keep a healthy diet

Proper diet is important in trying to keep the body in good shape, people should also have a pretty good idea about nutrient intake that will help keep the body generally healthy. In old age one might experience having a lower food intake than before due to reduced appetite. But the nutritional requirements of the body still remain at the same levels. Lack of food intake can result in a lot of nutritional deficiencies that may affect the whole body.

Eat the right food

The best way to help avoid this is by supplementing the diet with the right amounts of carbohydrates, proteins , vitamins and minerals that fall within the decreased energy levels experienced in old age. Fat intake should be decreased.

Protein should be maintained at a gram per kilo of body weight. Calcium should especially be important for older women since hormonal changes during menopause may bring about a substantial loss of the said mineral in the bones that can make them brittle. Calcium should be taken regularly by menopausal women since they are more susceptible to calcium loss.

Take vitamins

Vitamin requirements are generally not affected by old age. The usual amount remains the same although vitamins such as Thiamin, Niacin and Riboflavin may be decreased due to a decrease in energy requirements.
