How to Combat Stress with Good Nutrition

There seems to be a close association between nutrition and stress. People who are stressed are prone to make poor nutritional choices and affect overall health. Poor nutrition also seems to affect how people react to stress. A good way to cope up better with stress is through good nutrition. Here are some simple tips that would help you combat daily stress with good nutrition.

Eat Breakfast Regularly

When going through stress at work or anywhere else, it pays to keep the body well prepared for it early on. Stress can easily exhaust the body’s resources and use up a variety of nutrients. This can be worsened if you try to skip breakfast which is the most important meal of the day.

The possible result would be having a body that would react poorly to stress. By eating breakfast regularly, you ensure your body that it builds up on much needed resources and nutrients that would make it more capable of coping or handling stress for the day.

Eating a Balanced Meal

Apart from eating breakfast, a well-balanced meal should be in order. There are certain nutrients that the body needs in order to fight off the effects of stress from a physical standpoint.

When the body produces stress hormones, it triggers the body to excrete essential minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium from the body. These minerals help the body to avoid mood swings as well as help the muscles to relax. Without them, the body will not be capable of handling or coping with stress.

Antioxidants such as vitamin A, B, C and E help the body fight free radicals which are released by the body’s adrenal glands as a reaction to stress. And these antioxidants can also be depleted easily when the body is under stress. Having little of them to begin with can really affect your body’s overall reaction to a stressful event.

By eating a well-balanced diet, you are ensuring that your body has build up the essential nutrients that it needs to fight off stress. If a well-balanced diet may not be possible, there is always nutritional supplements available that would help make up for essential nutrients not available in the daily diet.
