Benefits of a Mineral Waters and Spas

Many cultures swear by the health benefits one can get just by dipping in a mineral spring, which has been valued for thousands of years because of its power to ease joint pain, muscle aches, and other physical ailments. 

What is a mineral water spring?

Also known as a mineral springs, it is a natural mineral water source usually located near the mountains.  Its water is heated by the earth and comes out to the surface at a tepid temperature, becoming hot enough for bathing. 

Mineral springs spa are said to be beneficial because of its higher-than-usual amounts of minerals contained in the water such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, manganese, sulfur, iodine, and bromine.  The exact make-up of these minerals differs from spring to spring, with different mineral concentrations are considered beneficial for different ailments.

Because the water is always hot, your skin’s pores open up and releases deep-seated toxins and sweat.  Your blood flow also increases, while keeping your blood pressure, because of the expanded blood vessels.  Increase blood circulation makes your body receive more oxygen and nutrients.

Where to find mineral spring spas?

Some of the world’s great cities with mineral spring spas include Baden-Baden in Germany, Spa in Belgium (yes, where the word "spa" comes from), and Bath in England.  Meanwhile, the United States also has its share of great mineral spas such as Berkeley Springs, Virginia; Calistoga, California; and Hot Springs, Arkansas. 

Mineral spring spas vary in the degree of luxury and amenities.  Some are historic bathhouses where you get to soak for 20 to 30 minutes in a private room, wherein you could also get a soothing massage.  There are also communal pools, and even lavish hotels and resorts.
