Fitness for Kids

Kids who are already into schooling must and should stay fit. Though doing great in school is good for them as well, it is also important that kids also engage in any sort of strenuous physical activity.

Concentrating on their studies even if it is recess makes kids engage less in moving about, even for just a number of minutes, to keep their muscles fit. Thus, a Physical Education class gives them the opportunity to remain fit, and helps them get exposed to different kinds of sports.

However, statistically, only about 8% of elementary schools have a physical education program. In addition, about 12% of schools do not have recess daily. This denies the child of the fitness they need, especially whenever at school.

According to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, an elementary school must have at least 150 minutes of PE every week and an average of 30 minutes a day. Moreover, it should also have a recess of about 20 minutes daily. If the school which your child attends to does not have any of these, it is advisable that you inquire with them about this.

Let your child engage into the different kinds of sports. This is best when they already 6 or 7. At this point, they already have the ability to grasp game rules, especially if they want outdoor team sports. Familiarize them with sports like volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer or even cheerleading. Further, if they want to pursue individual sports, orient them in ice skating, swimming, diving, dancing, tennis, horseback riding, gymnastics or even golf.

For indoor sports, you can recommend several types of sports. It will not only keep them from boredom but allow them to stay fit and develop the bodily muscles they need when growing up as well. You can ask them to pursue such sports or hobbies as biking, jumping rope, sledding, hiking or even games like tag or just the simple act of walking.
