Understanding Pregnancy

Pregnancy occurs when the egg cell of a female is fertilized by the sperm cell coming from a male. In humans, pregnancy can occur usually one at a time although there can be cases where a pregnancy can lead to conceiving twins or triplets.

Questions as to how long it takes for a woman to get pregnant can have several different answers. The reason for this is because there are certain factors at play that may affect the circumstances that may lead to pregnancy.

For healthy couples who have sex from two to three times every week, about 50 percent achieve conception after four to five months. About 70 percent of the couples can get achieve pregnancy after nine months. About 85 percent of couples who have regular sex usually achieve pregnancy after a year.

But in such cases, the males must have normal sperm count while the females must have regular ovulation cycles. Such cases can increase the likelihood of getting pregnant. Here are the other factors that may affect how couples may achieve pregnancy.

Normal ovulation can greatly affect how a woman can get pregnant since it involves cycle of how the egg cell develops and matures. A regular ovulation cycle makes it easier to predict when a woman is at her most fertile period. It may be harder to predict if women have irregular ovulation cycles. Women who never experience ovulation can never get pregnant without professional medical help and which can still be a rare occurrence.

Age plays a big factor in pregnancy. The older women get, the lesser the chances of them getting pregnant. Older women may produce eggs that may be of lesser quality which can make pregnancy difficult. The same goes with men as age can affect the quality as well as the quantity of sperm that the body produces.

Timing and Frequency of Sex

Pregnancy also dependent on right timing when it comes to having sex. In order to increase the chances of getting pregnant, couples may need to have regular sex two to three times every week. Sex should also be timed during four to five days before ovulation as well as during the day of ovulation. This will help ensure that the sperm cell comes into contact with a fertile egg, increasing the chances of conception.
