Building Resilience

Resilience is the capacity or characteristic of getting back up every time you fall down. It is the skill and ability to recover well in spite of the failures, setbacks experienced while in the face of adversity. Becoming more resilient in life can help make a person stand above all the others, strive harder, and ultimately succeed.

Building resilience takes time and effort. Some people may find it hard at first to accept rejections, failures and setbacks. Trying hard to get over them and move on may eventually lessen how they can affect you emotionally. Here are some ways in which you may be able to build resilience in due time.

Respond Positively to Setbacks

Of course, it can be very hard for a lot of people to look at a crisis situation and not be affected by it. But instead of letting a crisis get the better of you, you should try to look at it from a different perspective. Be aware that many setbacks in life are not that impossible to get over. Most problems that you think seem insurmountable actually are not. Try to think more on the side that there are some good things waiting ahead and that not all of it can be that bad most of the time.

Learn from Failures

One way to build resilience is by knowing what happens behind every failure and setback that you went through. The key to building resiliency is by learning from previous failures. The knowledge of past failures may help you avoid making the same mistakes all over again. Learning from your mistakes allows you to be prepared the next time such setbacks happen again. It also helps you handle things even better than before.

Act Decisively

Despite the seemingly difficult setbacks, acting decisively makes a person still have that sense of control over the situation. Setbacks may bring along problems and complications. Working directly to resolve them would be better than trying to shy away from them, which won’t make them go away.

Work on Your Goals

Resilience usually depends on how well you try to make something out of your setbacks. The faster you try to work on some goals, the better control you will have over the situation. Setting up goals is also a way to help build your confidence back, making you feel good along the way.

Make sure that you start by making short term and achievable goals and work on towards achieving the more difficult ones later on. This way, you try to forge on and move ahead instead of just staying still, even if it takes just small steps at a time.
