Male Health Conditions That Affect Ability to Orgasm

There are certain health conditions in men that may significantly affect their ability to have orgasms. These conditions may sometimes be considered by doctors as a possible explanation why some men may find it hard to get sexually aroused or achieve climax. It might help provide a better understanding of certain sexual dysfunctions in men and may help find the proper solutions to address such problems.


Men experiencing hypothyroidism may have a thyroid gland that might not be producing enough hormones needed by the body. Some of these hormones may be those needed for normal sexual function. Having such inadequate amounts of such hormones may lead to certain sexual dysfunctions in men which may include the inability to achieve orgasm.


Just like hypothyroidism, hypogonadism may also cause certain sexual dysfunctions in men. This condition may cause the testicles not to produce enough testosterone which may affect normal sexual function that may lead to considerable difficulty to achieve climax.

Neurological Problems

Certain neurological problems may have a drastic effect on a man’s sexual function and ability to reach climax. Stroke, diabetic neuropathy and multiple sclerosis may affect one’s ability to achieve orgasm.

Prostate Problems

Prostate problems including infections and the effects after surgery on the prostate or other pelvic organs can also affect a man’s ability to achieve orgasm.

Psychological Problems

Sometimes the inability to achieve orgasm in men can be traced to certain psychological problems. Depression, anxiety and panic disorders can sometimes cause men to experience difficulties in achieving orgasm. There are also cases where taking certain medications like SSRI’s to correct certain psychological problems may also contribute to certain sexual dysfunctions in men.
