Marijuana and Depression

Some studies point out a link between marijuana and depression, specifically regular and/or heavy marijuana use. Still, experts are not unsure whether smoking weed causes depression, or if marijuana and depression simply go together, at least for some.

Factors such as genes, environment, may be responsible for making a person more likely to go through depression. Inversely, factors or circumstances that trigger depression may make marijuana use more likely.

Caffeine and Depression

Just like the relationship between marijuana and depression, the link between caffeine and depression is also still unclear. There is currently no evidence supporting caffeine as a depression trigger.

However, some people are more sensitive than to the effects of caffeine. In some people who have depression, caffeine may make their condition worse.

Though caffeine can bring a fleeting "lift," the opposite may happen later on as the effects of caffeine wear off.

Caffeine is of course known to keep you wide awake. Caffeine may also make it difficult for you to stay awake. Lack of sleep may worsen depression.

Studies show that caffeine has a bit of an effect on blood sugar, particularly in people with diabetes. The changing blood sugar levels can be linked to mood changes.

If you’re suffering from depression, avoid caffeine to see if it improves your mood. But since caffeine can be habit forming, the sudden drop of caffeine can cause withdrawal symptoms which include headaches, fatigue, irritability, and nervousness. To prevent this, withdraw fro caffeine gradually, taking it one day at a time.
