It also increases alertness, blood pressure and the body’s energy expenditure.

Sip Hot Cocoa

One may think that sipping on hot cocoa can help you relax. Not only that, a study also showed that sipping on hot cocoa might help boost up cognitive function by improving blood flow to the brain. The study involved elderly participants who sipped hot cocoa twice a day for thirty days. The group scored higher on cognitive tests, suggesting that hot cocoa may have a hand in boosting brainpower even in the elderly.

Chew Gum

Do you wish to do well in challenging mental tests? Chew gum before taking the test. A study conducted by researchers from St. Lawrence University suggests that chewing gum before taking tests may help improve cognitive function. The researchers conducted a series of experiments on participants who took a battery of cognitive tests while they chewed gum prior to and throughout the testing phase. The results were then compared to participants who took the tests but did not chew gum. The results showed that the participants who chewed gum 5 minutes before the test showed better test scores than those who did not chew gum. The effect of chewing gum seems to offer benefits for the first 15 to 20 minutes of the testing period. Those who chewed gum during the testing did not show any significant advantage on tests. In addition, the advantages of chewing gum did not extend to all types of cognitive tests given. But the fact that the researchers reported cognitive improvements can make chewing gum before tests worth trying.
