Natural Ways To Combat Allergies

shutterstock_122366041Allergies are common problem among many people today. Seasonal allergies most especially are concern since people always expect them at a certain period of the year. People sometimes try to cope up with allergies using over-the-counter medications. But there are side effects such as drowsiness that many people would rather not experience. For those who try to avoid anti-allergy medications, there are other natural alternatives to combat against allergies. Here are some of them.

You may not think that eating salmon may be a good way to combat your allergies. But it does. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, known to have good anti-inflammatory properties. A study even showed that a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of developing hay fever. Eating salmon is a good way to help keep those allergies at bay.

Vitamin D

Studies show that there is a link between vitamin D intake and respiratory conditions such as asthma and related allergies. Low vitamin D levels seem to increase the risk for such allergic conditions in people. Researchers believe that the said vitamin may be blocking the production of allergy-causing molecules in the body.

Saline Rinse

A saline rinse is a good way to clear those blocked nasal passages due to an allergy. Squirting warm salty water into nasal passages can effectively clear out the excess mucous. But it will only be effective if it reaches the nasal passages. In preparing a saline solution, make sure you use only distilled or boiled water to ensure that it does not contain any bacteria. Add in teaspoon of iodide-free salt to 8 ounces of warm distilled water. Place it in a nasal bulb or a squeeze bottle with an elongated tip. Then slowly squirt the water into the nasal passages until they clear out. There are also ready-made nasal sprays available that you can use if you do not have time to mix one at home.
