For some conditions that are not so serious, other alternatives may be more ideal that using over-the-counter medicines. Food may be an example. There are certain foods that can also be quite effective as medicine to treat certain ailments. Here are just some of them.

Many people may experience Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. While some may try to take medicines to help them with the condition, some medical experts believe that food like peppermint may just be a s good in treating IBS or abdominal cramps without the usual side effects that come with some medications. Peppermint comes in many forms and not just on candy or chewing gum. Peppermint also comes as an essential oil, as a supplement as well as in tea form.

Honey For Cough
Instead of getting cough syrup to treat your cough, you may consider using honey instead. It is especially ideal for young kids older than 1 year old. It is a good alternative for young kids who may not always be advised to take over-the-counter cough medicines by virtue of their age. But adults can also enjoy its soothing benefits in treating cough symptoms.

Yogurt And Fermented Foods For Diarrhea
The next time you experience diarrhea, you may consider taking the alternative first in the form of yogurt or other fermented food such as pickles, miso, kimchi and others. Fermented foods usually contain living bacteria commonly called probiotics that help maintain the health of the digestive tract. A study back in 2012 reviewing data from 82 clinical trials found that probiotic foods were effective in treating antibiotic-related diarrhea.
