Health Myths That Might Surprise You 

People always aim to stay healthy all of the time. But there are times when what they think is a good health tip turns out to be false. There are certain health myths out there that people think are true and that they follow even to this day. Some are based on age-old belief while some are rather recent. Here are just some of those health myths.

Using anti-bacterial soap at home is a good idea.

An anti-bacterial  soap can help make people stay healthy by getting rid of bacteria. After all, many diseases are caused by bacteria. So getting rid of them by using anti-bacterial soap is perfectly healthy, right? Wrong. Many medical experts do not suggest using anti-bacterial soaps at home. It is only ideal for use in areas where there is a high concentration of harmful bacteria in the environment such as hospitals, clinics, and health centers. But when you use anti-bacterial soap in the home, it may cause some strains of bacteria to develop a resistance and make them more difficult to get rid of over time. Washing frequently using water and regular soap is sufficient for use in most homes.

You can get cold in the cold weather.

This belief may be brought about by a high incidence of colds happening during winter and the colder months. But the fact is the cold weather is not directly associated with causing colds in people. One possible reason why colds are more frequent during cold weather is that people are indoors most of the time. The air they usually breathe are not always properly ventilated. It causes viruses and other bacteria to circulate indoors and cause infections.

You can catch up on your sleep during the weekends.

Some people try to forego sleep during the weekdays in order to be more productive. They believe that they can just catch up during the weekends. But a study showed that trying to catch up on sleep may not be enough. When the participants were made to sleep an average of four hours during the week and given 10 hours to sleep during the weekends to recover, the measurement of certain factors such as reaction times, fatigue and level of attention span indicated that they have not yet gone back to their normal levels.
