Candida Diet: What You Should Know

A lot of diet programs are aimed for losing weight. But there are also other programs that aim to get different results. One example is to boost or improve certain functions of the body. There are diets that help improve a person’s digestive and immune systems. These diets may not lead to weight loss. But rather it comes as a secondary consequence at times. One such diet worth mentioning is the Candida Diet. 

Diet  Objective

The Candida Diet is known as a low-carbohydrate, low sugar diet. It does not necessarily aim to help in weight loss. Instead, the aim of this diet is to primarily reduce the amount of excess yeast from the gut. Too much yeast, especially the type known as Candida Albicans, in the gut is said to be the cause of a number of health issues and conditions. It is also known to promote a host of other infections. The main objective of this diet is to bring back the balance of gut bacteria by getting rid of the excess yeast population. 

Yeast  Problems

Candida Albicans is a common type of yeast known to cause infections in humans. While they normally live inside the body as well as on the skin, they can become a problem if their population numbers inside your body grow out of control. An overgrowth can lead to a type of infection more known as candidiasis. An overgrowth of this yeast in the body is also the reason for other conditions such as oral thrush and vaginal yeast infections in women. It can also lead to bowel irregularities, chronic fatigue, and even brain fog. 

Basics Of The Diet

The main component of the Candida Diet is eating foods that are low in sugar and carbohydrates. These food types are known to promote yeast overgrowth. eradicating them from the daily diet is an effective means of gradually bringing down the yeast population in the gut.

Food types ideal for the Candida Diet include proteins such as lean meat, fish and chicken. Cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are also allowed along with leafy greens like kale and lettuce.  One thing to bear in mind is avoiding starchy vegetables such as carrots, beets, corn, green peas, and others.
