Getting The Flu- What You Can Do

It is an important thing to avoid getting the flu, most especially during the time of a pandemic. But unfortunately, there are times when you just can’t avoid getting it during the flu season. There are many ways that will help you recover once you have caught the flu. Here are some of them.

Stay Hydrated

When you have the flu, you can expect some mucus build-up in your respiratory system. This can make it hard for you to breath and also make you susceptible to more infections. One way to prevent it is by staying hydrated. Drinking enough fluids can help thin out the mucus to make it easier to expel from your body. It does not have to be water. You can also include drinking fruit juices, sports drinks, and broths like chicken noodle soup for hydration.

Get Rested

When you have the flu, you need to remember that you’ll depend on your body to fight off the infection. There is no cure for it. The best way you can do is by helping your body fight the virus off by getting as much rest as you can. Get some much-needed sleep if you can and stay put by reading or watching movies in bed. Not only will you be doing your immune system a big service, staying home to rest can also help prevent spreading the flu virus to others.

OTC Medicines For Symptoms

When the symptoms are making it difficult for you to get some much-needed rest, you can try using over-the-counter medicines in order to deal with them. While your body is fighting off the virus, you might get a fever or suffer from headaches and body pains. Treat it with OTC medicines like ibuprofen, naproxen, or paracetamol. Ask your doctor what is ideal for you.
