Skin Changes That Need Your Attention

Your skin can tell a lot about your health. Your skin condition can help you determine if your body is feeling something out of the ordinary. Since it is easily observable, your skin can provide you with clues about your health. Here are some of the important clues your skin may show that need your utmost attention.

Yellowing Skin

Yellow skin indicates a condition that may be associated with the liver. It is common in newborn babies whose livers may not yet be functioning at their optimum levels. But in adults, yellowing skin can is a sign that something serious may be happening. One of its common causes includes live disease such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. It can also be caused by a gallstone or tumor blocking a bile duct or liver injury caused by certain medications you may be taking. If you observe that your skin is yellowing, try to contact a medical professional immediately.

Thickening Palms

If you feel that your palms are thickening, with the lines and ridges in your hands becoming more pronounced, this warrants your attention. While the condition may be rare, it is associated with cancer around 90 percent of the time. While little is known on how a tumor can affect your palms like this, it usually appears before all the other known symptoms of certain cancers. This provides you with an early warning signal to get medical help before it gets any worse.

Itchy Blisters

Itchy blisters or bumps, especially on the forearms, knees, and elbows may indicate a chronic skin condition known as dermatitis herpetiformis. This skin condition is usually associated with celiac disease. When left untreated, celiac disease can lead to intestinal damage as well as higher risks of lymphoma and other blood cancers. If you have some very itchy blister clusters in your skin, try to have it checked to determine if it is caused by celiac disease.
