Your health is always important. That is why you need to monitor it regularly. But in a time such as a pandemic, going for medical checkups may not be as convenient as before, especially if what you only need is an evaluation of your overall health. There are different ways to monitor your overall health that you can initially do at home. Here are just some of them.

BMI Check

Body mass index or BMI is a way to measure how much body fat that you have based on your height and weight. Having a high BMI can put you at an increased risk of developing diabetes, stroke, cancer, and other chronic conditions. You can calculate your BMI by dividing your weight in kilograms to your height in meters squared (BMI=kg/m2). A BMI of more than 25 makes you overweight. But there are certain limits to BMI measurements. It may not be accurate when measured on older adults or people with muscular builds.

Stair Test

A simple stair test can also be a way to determine your physical fitness. For this test, all you need to do is to climb four flights of stairs without stopping in one minute or less. This will help determine if you are physically fit as well as test your exercise capacity. This test can help predict if you are at risk of developing heart disease or even cancer over time.

Heart Health Checks

You can also try checking your heart health right at home. Try checking your heart rate by counting the beats from your pulse in your wrist, inside your elbow or the side of your neck. Your resting heart rate should be between 60 to 100 beats per minute. While medication may also alter your pulse rate, over the stated beat per minute will tell you that your heart may have some issues due to a number of factors. It can be a sign of a greater heart attack risk.
