Boosting Your Immune System During The Winter

The winter season may bring with it a number of health concerns for a lot of people. With shorter days and colder weather, it may be easy to catch a cold or suffer the sniffles.  But there are ways that you can help minimize this risk. There are many ways you can do to help boost your immune system. Here are just some of them.

Keep track of what you eat.

Your diet plays a big role in your overall health and well-being. It can also help boost up your immune system in time for the winter season. Try to eat more foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, mackerel, herring, walnuts, soybeans, chia seeds and many more. The healthy fats in these foods help keep your immune system in optimum shape.

You can also add more antioxidants into your diet to help boost up your immune system.  Eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes can help protect your body against free radicals which causes inflammation and affect your immune system. Colorful foods like oranges, berries, and beets are also known to be rich in antioxidants.

Take care of your gut.

A healthy gut also helps strengthen your immune system. Helping good bacteria flourish in your gut helps your immune system better differentiate between normal healthy cells and bad bacteria. Adding probiotics into your daily intake of food can help keep your gut in tip top shape. You can source them out from fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut.

Try to get more sleep.

Enough rest helps your body recuperate itself. It also helps boost your immune system. Unfortunately, a lot of people forget about this. Getting from 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily can help your body build a stronger immune system. This becomes all the more essential during the winter season. The longer night might even help you get extended time for sleep in the process if you really wanted to.
